Mute Swan Breeding

Mute swans, with their dazzling white plumage, orange bills and gracefully curved necks are among the most beautiful and instantly recognisable of all our wild birds. They live on areas of open water, rivers, ponds and canals throughout lowland Britain - either in towns or the countryside - and perhaps because they show little fear of human beings we tend to treat them with great affection and respect. Yet their serene, placid appearance can be deceptive. We need only see these magnificent birds flying low over the water, their long necks outstretched and massive wings whining noisily as they beat the air, to appreciate their true power and strength.

The main breeds for meat production are Muscovy, Aylesbury, Pekin and Rouen. Various crosses between these four pure breeds are also suitable for meat. Most ducks produced commercially for meat in Australia are Pekin/Aylesbury crosses—the cross is predominantly Pekin.
Muscovy
The Muscovy originated in Brazil and was domesticated in Europe around 1560. It is known in European countries by various names. Technically, the Muscovy is a member of the goose family, since it grazes and eats grass in the same way as geese. The Muscovy differs from other breeds in the following ways:

Chicken Breeding

Now that you have built your chicken coop and have a healthy flock, your thinking about getting the fuller experience and want to start breeding chickens. First off I want to say that this is a surprisingly difficult experience but it can also be fun and very rewarding.

Well it all starts with the rooster so lets talk a little bit about the rooster. A rooster is a male who fertilizes the female. A single act of sex between a male and female can make the female fertile for roughly one week (though this varies due to several variables).

Lovebirds Breeding

I am going to talk about breeding in indoor cages because that is all I know about as my lovebirds are indoors and not in avairys.
It is best to restrict breeding in lovebirds in the warmer months of the year, but as the lovebirds use their nesting boxes for roosting aswell as breeding, it is hard some times to stop them. The best way is to supply boxes containing a layer of peat only and not additional nesting materials when you do not want them to breed.

Canaries Breeding

Before you start into the hobby of breeding canaries you have to consider what it involves. It's easy to start out - You just need a male and female canary, put them both in the same cage with a nest and let nature do the rest. However, problems can arise. Sometimes the male and female will fight and have to be separated into two cages. Put the cages side by side until they get used to each other and then try to put them back together again. Minimal fighting is OK but in some cases the male can nearly kill the female. Make sure you have a male and female and not two males! One
